Ray Franz repeat?

if one of the current governing body members pulled a ray franz and stepped down/got disfellowshipped then either wrote an expose or something else to go against the watchtower society - would they be forgiven and accepted by the ex-jw community?.

considering they have ray's example behind them i find it more deplorable that they continue in their paths, and personally would find it hard, though not impossible to forgive them - but am interested in everyones opinion....

As shocking as this may sound, Ray Franz was not the first person to leave the WTB&TS for matters of conscience, he was simply the "biggest fish" of his time.

I left the JWs before Ray did. Back in the day, he would have denounced me with no pangs of conscience. I never felt that I owed a special "debt" to Ray.

I felt a kinship with Barbara Grizzuti Harrison, who left before I did and whose book was a vindication for me of what I knew. As I learned more about the history of the WTB&TS, I learned of others with whom I felt a kinship. Richard Rawe was one. Fred Robison was one.

I'm noy finding fault with Ray. I communicated with him a couple of times, and he was a gentleman. In fact, if you asked him he would probably say he didn't want a lot of fame or acclaim; he just wanted to tell his story. The Watchtower accused him of seeking to create his own organization, but histry once again shows the Watchtower to be a liar.

Sooner or later, there will be another WT "biggie" who will leave. I know this because beneath their reptilian mask they are human. ONLY human.

okay we've all beat our chest, lamented and throttled the dead horse of aawa.. time to move on!.

i suggest those of us on j-w.n who care about creating something the right way take the trouble to get the framework going.. let's do the grunt work and get the nattering, debates, naming and organizing already pre-approved so that "others" who have the talent, ability, motivation and resources can move in and turn the key!.

because it was not done before.. there is more wisdom on this discussion board in our vast numbers than there could possibly be in a virtual boardroom with 8 people brain-storming.. that isn't an insult--it is just a statistical fact!.

discussion with wife today led to her questioning whether i believe or not.

i told her that i just can't roll over and accept everything new thing they say just like that.

we were, of course, talking about the "new light".

You might ask her who is going to take care of her fragile little bones if she kicks YOU to the curb. Does she think the elders will bring her into their home and care for her? Does she fantasize that an angel in the guise of a Bethelite will materialize to carry her through life? Does she expect to be provided with manna as a reward for her loyalty to the organization? Even if manna was real (it wasn't), it was provided by God, not by a homewrecking publishing empire!

I'm not suggesting you repeat my comments to her. As I said, I fear for your future.

I did not know of the Atacama Humanoid. Who first discovered it, and under what circumstances?

last night my husband and i watched a special on the history channel about the knights templar.

about two weeks before i showed my husband the 607/587 blunder.

first off, he didn't even know that 607 was relevant to jw teachings.

The best way to keep people in a cult is to make sure they don't really understand what they are espousing. Scientology, Wahabi Islam, and UFO cults are other good examples. An old drunk once said, "religion is a snare and a racket."

Throughout the history of the Watchtower there have been "secret doctrines" in the sense that there have been some teachings that were seldom discussed but which were firmly inside the Watchtower doctrinal camp. One of these is that the 144,000 are part of the ransom. Another is the 7,000 year long creative day, which Russell picked up in his early reading - that notion has only the barest scriptural support and can be shown to pre-date Christianity itself.

The Watchtower no longer has Russell, Rutherford or Franz to vigorously defend their "present truth." They are led by a comittee of ignoramuses today, a doctrinal fuster-cluck.

i'd like to offer a public apology to nathan natas for making a wrong decision when i deleted him.. i allowed a combination of previous issues we'd had and input from other forum members to bias my decision which lead me to what i now, in hindsight, believe to have been a mistake.. whether you want to come back and post here or not i wanted to at least say sorry and will reactivate your account..
